It's January 31st and the experiment is over. The last of the fics is for [livejournal.com profile] smithkingsley it's Barney/Ted and the prompt was "spiral"!

Title: Spiral
Fandom: How I Met Your Mother
Pairing: Barney/Ted
Rating: PG
Disclaimer: Don't own.
Spoilers: Nada.

"What are you up to?" Barney asks peering over Ted's shoulder.

"Oh, looking at some reports from my class." he shuffles the papers in front of him, "The assignment was about 'spirals in architecture but almost everyone did something about spiral staircases." He lets out a good natured sigh and shakes his head, Barney feels the need to do it too, but he's not sure why.

"This one, however," Ted says and plucks one paper from the pile and shows it to Barney. There's a picture attached that looks like a normal landscape that someone drew a giant squiggle on. "This is the Spiral Jetty." Ted says, and looks at Barney like he should be as impressed as Ted sounds.

Barney just raises an eyebrow, "Ted, not all of us are giant nerds who get off on buttresses and staircases." Then he has to giggle at the word buttress.

Ted sighs again, though he's smiling. "It's this sculpture out in Utah; it's made from 6,550 tons of rocks and earth. Isn't that incredible?"

And it just looks like what it is, a bunch of rocks in some stagnant pond shaped like something Lily's kindergarteners draw during finger-painting But Barney will never tire of that sound of awe in Ted's voice whenever he talks about this stuff, the way his eyes light up and all that other mushy stuff.

Barney's eyes light up the same way later that night, tracing spirals on Ted's heaving, sweat slicked chest in bed.

Okay, so there were two fics I did not get to. [livejournal.com profile] soophelia's House/Wilson prompt, but the Merlin one just turned out to be more inspiring (thouch I really need to write a House fic one of these damn days) and [livejournal.com profile] jenlan's Dogtor/Master prompt because though I do know a whole bunch about the show, I don't really know enough to write a fic that wasn't a total rip off of other fics I've read. Sorry about that guys, if I get inspired I might still write them.

Come on! That last line is gorgeous. Such a lovely way to use the prompt.

Really really love this line too: Barney will never tire of that sound of awe in Ted's voice whenever he talks about this stuff, the way his eyes light up and all that other mushy stuff.

You really should write more, if time and the muses permit. Such warm, wonderful writing.

I do have an ton of fics I need to post as a part of this really long project I'm working on, but I still have quite a bit to go. It will go up though!...someday, haha.

Just incredibly, incredibly adorkable. I love this fic. Barney's thought processes are very believable. And I agree with Ted. The sculpture is pretty cool.

I knew I had to use that sculpture because Ted would totally love it. Thanks, I'm really glad you liked this!
