I just realized there was something missing from that post about "something that always makes me laugh". This picture makes me giggle like a hyena every time.

What is up with that hair? And that...knitted neckerchief thing? You look like Fabio! BAHAHAHA.
1. Everyone is flocking to it. All of sudden all these writers, ones you know from completely different fandoms, are in it. And so are a tons of people you never heard about. Smallville just exploded with people, it was like the six degrees of fandom, everyone was connected by Smallville.
2. There are a lot of fics being written, most of them very, very good. That goes with everyone coming into the fandom, a lot of incredible writers all end up in the same fandom so there's this inundation of fabulous fic. And everybody was writing fic too, everyone had at least one Smallville fic in their repetoire. I wrote Smallville fic (though I can't attest to its greatness). I've been reading for days and theres no end in sight, there's just more fic. I have yet to come across the same fic twice accidentally. (And there's a lot of smut fics. Really really good smut fics.)
3. There's one main OTP. No one in Smallville fandom tried to pretend Clark and Lex weren't the biggest gayboys for each other that fandom's ever seen. That's something Smallville had that was really unique, because there were all these other characters and so many possible pairings, but not one made up even a tenth of the amount of Clex fics out there. It's not quite so cut and dried with Merlin, but it's really obvious that they're going to lap all the other pairings because no one else really has a chance.
And this is just fandom. There's all these other ways Merlin is like Smallville, such as the two main characters having destinies that intertwine and one character hiding a secret, specially powers, from the other and one of them being born to Magnificent Bastards who are rich and privledged, while the other comes from the lower class.
